A single preoperative dose of gabapentin did not show a significant difference in opioid consumption or pain scores in adolescents undergoing idiopathic scoliosis surgery. This study is the first pediatric randomized controlled trial to assess the effectiveness of a single dose of gabapentin on morphine consumption and analgesia following major surgery.
The present study describes video recording practices in paediatric hospitals in North America and Great Britain. Video recording is primarily used for education and most areas have a consent process.
Letters (two copies) must be typewritten on one side of the paper only and double spaced with wide margins. Copy should be prepared in the usual style and format of the Correspondence section. Authors must follow the advice about references and other matters contained in the Notice to Contributors to Anaesthesia printed at the back of each issue. The degree and diplomas of each author must be given in a covering letter personally signed by all the authors. Correspondence presented in any other style or format may be the subject of considerable delay and may be returned to the author for revision. If the letter comments on a published article in Anaesthesia, please send three copies; otherwise two copies of your letter will suffice.
Overview This important trial is the first prospective randomised controlled trial (RCT) looking at whether medical emergency team (MET) systems "reduce the incidence of cardiac arrests, unplanned admissions to intensive care units (ICU) and deaths." The MET system approach relies on early recognition of warning criteria and subsequent communication and assessment by the MET, to reduce morbidity and mortality. Previous studies have either had insufficient patient numbers, used historical controls or been non-randomised. This study was designed to look at whether a randomised trial would answer questions which had not previously been explained sufficiently. Participating hospitals were recruited to either intervention of control groups. A six month randomised control trial was carried out to try and compare these groups, and show any statistical or clinical benefit of the MET.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
