Arka is a liquid preparation obtained from drugs by distillation using Arkayantra or any convenient modern distillation apparatus. In Arkaprakāśa, Arka Kalpanā is given specific importance and the author opines that it has more potency when compared to other Kalpanās. Kvātha is one among the Pañchavidha Kaṣāya Kalpanā. Boiling the drug in water for a definite period of time and reducing it to specified quant ity is called Kvātha. The volatile contents of the drugs are extracted in Arka Kalpanā through condensation of vapour, which is destroyed in Kvātha Kal panā. The present study was planned with the aim to compare the physico-chemical parameters of Arka and Kvātha Kalpanās of the drug Dāruharidrā.
Shitada(Gingivitis)is widely detailed in the western Dentistry, as well as in Shalakya Tantrafrom Ayurveda. It can progress to periodontitis, eventually risking tooth and alveolar bone loss. The prevalence of Shitada(Gingivitis)is significantly high, however underreported. Chronicity warrants long term and repetitive medication with anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic agents, paving risks for adverse drug reactions.Pratisarana, the Ayurvedic local management as observed in this single case study offers safe, effective, and economical alternative. This can be extended to the high-risk groups for prevention, and to the patients for management / cure.
