This study aims to examine the role of spatial dependence on Indonesia’s regional economic growth based on panel data of all provinces in Indonesia during 1990–2015. By using spatial durbin model, the authors found that spatial dependence plays an important role in achieving regional economic growth in Indonesia. Indonesia’s regional economic growth model that controls spatial dependence, yields better estimates than growth model that does not control spatial dependence. The researchers also found positive spatial spillover to Indonesia’s regional economic growth sourced from other region’s economic growth and initial per capita incomes, as well as population growth in other regions. ============================ Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peranan ketergantungan spasial terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi regional Indonesia berdasarkan data panel seluruh provinsi di Indonesia selama tahun 1990–2015. Dengan menggunakan model durbin spasial, penulis menemukan bahwa ketergantungan spasial berperan penting dalam pencapaian pertumbuhan ekonomi regional di Indonesia. Model pertumbuhan ekonomi regional Indonesia yang mengontrol ketergantungan spasial menghasilkan estimasi yang lebih baik daripada model pertumbuhan ekonomi regional Indonesia yang tidak mengontrol ketergantungan spasial. Peneliti jugamenemukan terjadinya spatial spillover yang positif terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi regional Indonesia yang bersumber dari pertumbuhan ekonomi wilayah lain, pendapatan per kapita awal dari wilayah lain dan pertumbuhan penduduk wilayah lain.
The studies on human capital and technological progress have given incredible insights on how countries in the world differ from one another. Yet there are more than those two reasons to account for differences among countries. There is a third reason why a country would differ in terms of its economic development progress, namely institutional factors. Hence developing institutional indices would give a deeper explanation than a mere theory. On the other hand, we can corroborate the institutional index with the general theory that low-quality institutions will impact an economy negatively. This study seeks to broaden the understanding of causes of economic growth by incorporating institutional index into a semi-endogenous growth model and finds a relationship between that index with human capital and technological progress
Theoretically, in the labor market without discrimination, wages should be paid according to productivity. Unlike other studies that use worker level data, this study will identify gender wage discrimination using firm-level data. Using Industrial Survey Data in 1996 and 2006, the gender wage ratio and gender productivity ratio were estimated simultaneously using the nonlinear seemingly unrelated regression (NLSUR) with least square estimator. We find that there is wage discrimination against women in the manufacturing sector. After disaggregating the firms by trade orientation, we show that wage discrimination against women occurs in non-exporting firms. While in exporting firms there is no wage discrimination. ========================= Secara teori, di pasar kerja yang tidak ada diskriminasi, seharusnya upah dibayar sesuai dengan produktivitas. Berbeda dengan penelitian lain yang menggunakan data level pekerja, penelitian ini akan mengidentifikasi diskriminasi upah antargender dengan menggunakan data di level perusahaan. Dengan menggunakan data Industri Besar dan Sedang tahun 1996 dan 2006, rasio upah gender dan rasio produktivitas gender diestimasi secara simultan menggunakan metode non-linear seemingly unrelated regression (NLSUR) dengan estimator least square. Penelitian ini menemukan bukti ada diskriminasi upah terhadap perempuan di sektor manufaktur. Setelah mendisagregasi perusahaan berdasarkan status ekspor, diskriminasi upah terhadap perempuan ditemukan di perusahaan non-eksportir, sedangkan di perusahaan eksportir tidak ditemukan diskriminasi upah.
This study attempts to find out the influence of trade liberalisation on wage inequality in Indonesia. A two-stage estimation approach is used. Using the national labour force survey dataset, the study estimates industry wage premium and industryspecific skill premium in the first stage conditional on individual worker characteristics. In the second stage, the study regresses industry wage premium and industry-specific skill premium on tariff as a measure of trade liberalisation, respectively. It is concluded that trade liberalisation significantly contributes to increasing wage inequality. This contribution occurred through changes in industry wage premium but not industryspecific skill premium.
Unemployment has a negative impact on individuals. During the unemployment period, job seekers will use their money or assets savings and as long as the unemployment period is not over, the job seekers will need more money or assets in order to meet their needs during the unemployment period. The open unemployment rate (TPT) in Indonesia is more dominated by people with high school education and above indicating an oversupply of graduates with high education. This oversupply is one of the causes of the mismatch in the level of education or also referred to as overeducation. This study aims to determine the effect of overeducation on unemployment duration in Indonesia. This study uses the National Labor Force Survey Panel (SAKERNAS PANEL 2017) through a survival analysis approach with Cox Proportional Hazard Regression. The results showed that overeducation would extend the length of time someone was looking for work.
