Salivary reservoir in maxillary denture offers an effective, non-invasive approach in the treatment of edentulous patients afflicted with xerostomia. It is always desirable to have large volume reservoir in order to decrease the inconvenience of repeated refilling, however, increased bulk of palatal reservoir often leads to discomfort in speech, swallowing and acceptance of such prosthesis. In designing of size and shape of reservoir in the present case, large volume was achieved utilizing circular palatal resorption area, and proper shape was ensured by duplication of functional palatal contour. Adequate voluntary wetting of mouth was effected by “swallowing control saliva release” mechanism of the flexible reservoir lid. Sunken cheek appearance was addressed by using an easy, economical, and effective method of detachable cheek plumpers.
Background: Background: To evaluate and compare the hardness and tensile bond strength of a silicone soft lining material, after short term immersion in two different denture cleansing solutions and water over varying time periods. Materials & Methods: The study comprised of 3 groups followed by 3 subgroups under each groups of 10 specimens for evaluation of tensile bond strength with heat cure denture base acrylic resin, and 3 groups followed by 3 subgroups under each groups of 10 specimens each for the hardness test of soft liners. Group A: Heat polymerized silicone based resilient liner immersed in denture cleansing solution secure with 700mg of sodium perborate monohydrate, Group B: Heat polymerized silicone based resilient liner immersed in denture cleansing solution clinsodent with 480mg of sodium perborate monohydrate and Group C: Heat polymerized silicone based resilient liner immersed in water. Results: At day 1 and 1 week, Group B showed highest tensile bond strength (1.500.015) and (1.12 0.012) respectively whereas at 1 month, Group C showed highest tensile bond strength (0.96 0.016). Conclusion: A significant difference exists in the tensile bond strength and the hardness values of the soft liner specimen when immersed in water and two different denture cleansing solutions between the periods of immersion.
Forensic science helps us with examination of accidents or crime scene and also gather information related to medicolegal cases. Prosthodontist plays a major role in forensic odontology and highly significant after the invention of denture labeling techniques. Identification of a person gets very difficult in case of accident, loss of memory state of unconsciousness and in hospitals. Labeled denture helps us to identify the dead after disasters, in emergency situation and accidents. There are various types of marking system used these days and also described in literature. This case report highlights a technique of denture identification wherein a quick response code (QR Code) is incorporated into the processed denture using a clear acrylic.
