Purpose – the main idea of the article was to characterize the process of digitalization in insurance companies through the implementation of information and communication technologies (ICT). This research examined the relationship between the expenses for information technologies of selected insurance companies and the results of their activity. Research methodology – the research had empirical character and was based on the analysis of two groups of indicators: digitalization and insurance. The first group characterizes the level of insurance companies’ investments in ICT, and the second – the results of insurance activity. Data were collected from notes to financial statements of top 4 European insur-ance groups. The results have been received based on correlation analysis. Findings – the results of the research showed that there is a different tendency in the raising of ICT investments and the values of gross premiums, claims, and expenses. This result deals with the important question in insurance if the higher invests in technologies could be a factor of insurers’ effectiveness. Research limitations – most important limitation relates to the lack of complete data about information and communica-tion technologies in insurers. It is closely connected with some ambiguity in defining modern information technologies. Practical implications – the results of the research could be used in the decision-making process in practice or future re-search. Originality/Value – in the research the possibility to combine analysis and comparison of selected parameters of digitali-zation based on financial statements of insurance companies was described.
Research background: Residential mobility affects the spatial structure of cities and urban development. Longer-distance migration has many additional implications: it affects the demographic situation of a sending area as well as its growth prospects. The literature on interregional and especially international migration regards residential satisfaction as being of at least secondary importance. More attention to this concept is given in research on intra-urban migration and suburbanisation. In a seminal paper of Speare (1974), residential satisfaction was found to be the best predictor of the willingness to move. However, determinants of mobility are country-specific. Purpose of the article: Answering the following research questions: 1) What is the scale and selectivity of the intention to move among city residents? 2) Does residential satisfaction explain variation in migration intentions? Methods: The data are derived from the PAPI survey on life quality in Lublin, Poland (sample: 1101 residents). We build ordered logit models explaining residents’ declarations regarding different types of migration (intra-urban migration, suburbanisation, interregional and international migration) with various proxies of residential satisfaction, as well as financial situation and demographic attributes. Findings & Value added: The propensity to migrate was declared by approx. 15–30% of respondents, depending on the type of migration, which indicates relatively low mobility as against EU countries. We confirm that the intention to move is highly selective. The estimated ordered logit models explaining the intention to move prove that satisfaction with housing and neighbourhood characteristics along with life-stage characteristics are relevant predictors of intention to move both within and outside the region. We disregard the opinion that unemployment and adverse financial situation are key drivers of mobility in contemporary Poland. In a more international context, we provide evidence on how long- and short-distance migration are different in nature and discuss some policy implications regarding countering depopulation in peripheral areas.
One of the greatest challenges the European Union is facing nowadays is the current demographic changes. The issue of ageing population is gaining popularity also in the light of economic research. The aim of this study is to examine the perception of mature consumers (understood, for the purposes of this study, as born before 1967) of the quality of property insurance, with a particular emphasis on the claim settlement aspect. Information on how mature customers perceive the quality of insurance is important both from the perspective of insurance companies and insurance intermediaries. The former are developing and improving a tailored range of products for specific customer groups, as competition on the insurance market is constantly growing. Insurance sales have become computerised. Insurance agents have to constantly adapt the methods of acquiring clients to the changing needs of the latter; the needs and perception of insurance products and services differ across age groups. The study was conducted in the years 2016–2017 by means of the CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interview) and PAPI (Paper and Pen Personal Interview) techniques. The questionnaire was completed by 388 residents of Lubelskie Voivodship whose selection was based on a quota sampling. The results of the survey were analysed with the application of an ordered logit model, in which quality aspects (such as the access to information, availability of the liquidator, etc.) were used as dependent variables, while socio-economic features (i.e. age, sex, place of residence, income, etc.) as regressors. The study showed that in addition to immanent product features, high compensation is most important to the respondents. Respondents perceiving their financial situation as satisfactory tend to assess the technical aspects of the damage liquidation process as less important than those with lower income, while older surveyees perceive the issue of insurance formalities as much more vital than younger respondents.
The aim of the work is to examine how the role of universities in the public procurement market and in public-private partnership is perceived by both the contracting authorities and the contractors. It was verified whether the entities participating in public procurement and public-private partnership see the need for cooperation with universities, and whether there is a link between the declared need for cooperation and the assessment of real actions taken or provided by universities. The work is based on a survey conducted between March and May 2020 among 520 institutions representing contractors and procurers in public procurement. The highest evaluation was given to the activities of public universities in the field of public procurement and public-private partnership in Lubuskie and Śląskie (opinion of procurers) and Lubelskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie (opinion of contractors). With the use of logistic regression models it was verified that there is a positive relation between the evaluation of the university's activities and the declared need for cooperation between the university and the analysed entity.
