An ultrasmall radiofrequency identification (RFID) tag antenna is proposed for metallic applications. The antenna consists of a loop structure on FR4 substrate with a chip on the side. The overall dimensions of the tag are 10 × 10 × 2.07 mm (0.03λ × 0.03λ × 0.006λ). Studies demonstrate that the proposed antenna is a good candidate for RFID tags to be mounted on metallic surfaces. Experimental results demonstrate that the tag is able to achieve a read distance of 20 cm with an equivalent isotropic radiated power of 1.64 W when attached to a metallic object. The proposed antenna is proved to be competitive against state of the art.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
