Background: Catatonia is a psychomotor syndrome characterized by numerous clinical features, a few being stupors which is the most common sign, posturing, forced grasping, echopraxia, etc. There have been cases documented in the literature of Catatonia occurring with COVID-19. This article will focus on the complete and brief overview of catatonia observed in patients with COVID-19 infection. Methods: We outline the evidence of the pathophysiology of COVID-19 in the CNS system, the effect of the virus in inducing catatonia, and its outcome. The literature used in the article is mostly case reports from different parts of the world thus; we have generalized our review taking into consideration multiple factors. Results: In patients with COVID-19, neuropsychiatric manifestations are very commonly appreciated. Catatonia has been documented in many patients along with respiratory symptoms such as fever, shortness of breath, and cough. There are multiple etiologies associated with this presentation which have been discussed in detail in this article. In many patients, there was no history of any psychiatric illness. The timing of presenting with catatonic features was also different for different individuals. Conclusion: COVID-19 has been believed to contribute to the presentation of catatonia. There is no specific timeline between the onset of symptoms and the presence of COVID-19 infection. However, coronavirus can be responsible in a few ways for inducing catatonia in patients with or without any previous psychiatric illness. Background: Since December 2019, a novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) began its journey around the world. The novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV, officially known as SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19) was first reported in December 2019, as a cluster of acute respiratory illness in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, from where it spread rapidly to over 198 countries. It was declared as a global pandemic by WHO on 12th March 2020.Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a highly transmittable infection and India due to its geographical location is vulnerable to a worst outbreak. India is suddenly increasing its hike in number of positive cases including number of healthcare professionals (HCPs) also acquired infection. Therefore, the aim of study is to assess knowledge and perception among health care workers in Delhi NCR, a vulnerable region, regarding COVID-19. Method: A web-based, cross-sectional study was conducted using a survey instrument to obtain responses from health care workers in Delhi NCR region. A 45-item survey instrument was developed using course materials available on WHO’s website on emerging COVID-19. The survey covered health care workers socio demographic profile, awareness, information sources, and knowledge and perceptions related to COVID-19. Result: The study findings suggest that the level of knowledge was good among health care workers and overall a positive perception was found about COVID 19. Conclusion: As the global threat of COVID-19 continues to emerge, greater efforts through educational campaigns that target HCWs and the wider population beyond borders are needed.
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected both the physical and mental health of frontline health workers (HCWs). Mental health problems have been reported among these HCWs irrespective of any history of psychologic illness in the past . Prevention of post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in healthcare workers (HCWs) facing the current COVID-19 pandemic is a challenge worldwide as HCWs are likely to experience acute and chronic, often unpredictable, occupational stressors leading to PTSD. This review aims to analyse the literature to discover which topics have been focused on occurance of PTSD and what the latest progresses are in managing the risk in HCWs during the current pandemic The study involved a systematic review from internet databases such as Pubmed and CINHAL. Following that, databases were accessed to conduct a more detailed search of the literature using key phrases and Boolean operators to create articles pertinent to the issue. 64 records identified. The duplicates and those not matching with the criteria were excluded. 8 articles were filtered using an inclusion/exclusion criterion.
