Safety and security are among the most basic needs in life and are essential in tourism as in other research areas; thus, researchers need to focus on the topic. Since the 1970s, when the first scientific paper on tourism safety was published, the number of research in this field has significantly increased. This study aims to carry out a bibliometric analysis on tourism safety and security research conducted over the past forty-five years. The literature on the subject includes 597 studies obtained from the Scopus database. VOSviewer scientific mapping software programme was used to perform the analysis. The software covers keywords of tourism safety and security topics, influential authors, publications, journals, and countries and identifies several techniques such as co-citation, concept association, and bibliographic coupling. The rapid increase in the number of research and citations shows that the topic of tourism safety and security has drawn the attention of researchers in the last 12 years. The analysis results revealed that the study with the strongest link with other publications is “Tourist's perceptions of safety and security while visiting Cape Town”. The researcher who contributed the most to the field with the author citation is Michael C. Hall; the journal making the most substantial impact is Tourism Management. Finally, the most productive country is United States of America. The current study contributes to expanding the literature on tourism safety and security and offers an overview for further research in this field.
Didyma is an area which has been home to immigrants for 100 years and so experienced changes in many aspects. Immigration towards a region, alone, has the power to cause change. The development of tourism in Didyma has increased the power of migration to cause change and has turned migration into a self-acting social process. Starting from 1924, when first immigrants arrived at Didyma, if we call every movement of migration of a group of individuals with common characteristics a "stratum of migration," it will be possible to distinguish three main strata; namely, the Balkanization, dam-induced and tourism related migrations. Within this framework, the purpose of this study is to investigate the sociocultural change created by social groups distinguished according to their sociocultural characteristics and reasons for migration related tourism. The data for this study were collected through interviews conducted in person and analyzed in accordance with grounded theory approach. As a result of this study, the dimensions of change were divided into five main categories; deterioration of social values, declination of business ethics, changes in senses of identity and belonging, socio-spatial accumulation and emergence of social hegemony.
Ontological assumptions that social reality is standardized and predictable, or that it is constantly reconstructed through human interactions, affect the research topics choice of the researchers, how they formulate questions, and how they conduct research. The researcher's ontological perspective is reflected in these epistemological inquiries, which indicate how to obtain information about the nature of reality. These philosophical approaches serve as instruments for framing how the research process should progress, from the type of research questions to how data will be acquired and analyzed to data interpretation and provide a viewpoint on the social world. This research focuses on qualitative data analysis, which is one of the most difficult processes in qualitative research methodologies that aim to comprehend and interpret the social world in its natural setting and is critical to the research's success. It aims to develop a guide that will assist novice researchers who desire to conduct qualitative data analysis. To achieve this aim, the steps of qualitative data analysis are explained. Content analysis and thematic analysis which are the basic qualitative data analysis methodologies are described within the context of the disciplines on which they are founded. Qualitative data analysis methodologies, which are most used in the field of social sciences, are clarified by stressing the distinctions between the fundamental ideas.
Tourism has developed in Nevşehir and Antalya, two of the most significant destinations of today’s Turkey, in 1960s. In line with the previous study in the related literature, it is possible to mention that the tourism activities in those regions have been triggered by the visits of the hippies. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the contribution of the hippies to the development of tourism in Cappadocia (Nevşehir), Side and Alanya (Antalya), which have become significant tourism destinations in Turkey. For this purpose, the transcripts of the interviews of the Turkey Tourism History Project, which describes the tourism development and history in these regions, were subjected to document analysis. The impact of hippies on Turkey’s tourism has been explained within the framework of Social Exchange Theory. As a result, it has been determined that all stages of the social exchange theory have been observed between hippies and local people. The local people, who initially approached hippies with prejudice, changed their perspective towards hippies in a positive way with the effect of many externalities.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
