The current article attempts to develop teaching material for intermediate grammar in form of electronic book (e-book) which utilize epub format. E-book is assumed to be an interesting learning sources since it utilizes digital media, in which it is suitable with the students’ condition in digital era. This research was carried out by using Research and Development method. In developing e-book, several stages were conducted; pre-liminary research, prototyping phase, and assessment phase. From the assessment result, it was found that three experts in; material, language used and media declared that this e-book is appropriate to be used. Moreover, in term of students’ perception, it was revealed that from aspect relevance (4.0); consistency (3.8); practice (4.4); and effective (4.2) which hence it can be said that students have positive perception toward the use of this e-book.. Therefore, it can be concluded that generally this e-book is very good and recommended to be used in pre-intermediate grammar classroom.
The current article attempts to elaborate on the students’ language learning motivation within the application of lesson study for the learning community at STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi. This article is a descriptive-quantitative study involving 60 students of the English Education Study Program as the sample. A questionnaire to identify the language learning motivation is administered as the instrument of the research. The questionnaire is validated by experts and the reliability is tested using Cronbach Alpha formula. The data are analyzed descriptively. The findings show that the students’ language learning motivation within a lesson study framework tends to be instrumental orientation. Therefore, lesson study for a learning community is effective to be implemented at STKIP Muhammadiyah Kotabumi, especially for the students of the English Education Study Program.
Listening skill in English is one of the most important skills in communication and educational process. However, listening skill is a skill that is not easily mastered by all non-native speaker students. The students need to know and understand the difficulties in listening process. Therefore, the current study aims to investigate the difficulties faced by the students dealing with listening comprehension. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with case study approach that examines six students in third semester of the English education study program in Universitas Muhammadiyah Kotabumi with three different proficiency levels: low, moderate, and high level. The results of this study showed that students with low level faced difficulties with unfamiliar words (message content), speed of speech (speaker), and lack of vocabulary (listener). Then in moderate level students felt difficult in the speed of speech (speaker) and noises (physical settings). Meanwhile, students with high level faced difficulty with the long spoken text (message content), variety of accents (speaker) and noises (physical settings). It can be concluded that the listening comprehension difficulties encountered by the students at tertiary level are different depending on their proficiency in English. Therefore, the implication of the current study is that the lecturer need to consider the information revealed in this study in order to be able to overcome the difficulties faced by the students.
Speaking is one of the ways people communicate verbally. Important speaking skills, students must be able to speak English well. However, in reality students' communication in speaking class often faces problems. One of them is communication apprehension, communication apprehension is people who feel bad feelings in communicative situations. Therefore, it is important to do further research through research to find out whether actually facing communication fears can help to succeed in learning to speak. Based on these problems, researchers are interested in examining the types and factors that cause student communication in the speaking class. This study aims to describe the types and factors that cause communication anxiety experienced by students. This study uses a descriptive approach. This research involved 7 participants from speaking class at Muhammadiyah University of Kotabumi. Data collection was done through a questionnaire with a google form. The results showed that students experienced network communication in types of traits such as, situational and general context. In this case, the person-group is the missing type in this study. Then for the anxiety factor, students experience novelty, formality, subordinate status, ignorance, inequality, attention, heredity and environment. The missing factors of Communication Aprehension are strengthening and defeating.
Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan keterampilan membaca pemahaman mahasiswa setelah diberi treatmentpengajaran dalam bentuk metode pembelajaran Cooperative Integrated Readingand Composition (CIRC) terintegrasi media pembelajaran digital berbasis Sparkol Videoscribe. Artikel ini merupakan sebuah penelitian tindakan kelas (classroom action research) yang melibatkan mahasiswa semester III Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia Universitas Muhammadiyah Kotabumi sebagai sampel. Penelitian ini menggunakan siklus yang dikembangkan oleh Kemmis & McTaggart yang terdiri atas planning, action, observing, dan reflection. Setelah dilakukan tindakan selama dua siklus, hasil menunjukan bahwa ada peningkatan signifikan yang terjadi pada keterampilan membaca pemahaman mahasiswa. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode pembelajaran CIRC terintegrasi media pembelajaran digital dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca pemahaman bagi mahasiswa.
