Re sults: Of 79 cases, 43 (54%) were males and 36 (46%) were females. Mean age of the patients was 53 years (range: 10-82 years). Benign eyelid tumors were most commonly seen in the sixth decade of life (29%). Histopathological diagnoses of benign eyelid tumors were as follows: nevus (15 patients, 19%), papilloma (15 patients, 19%), seborrheic keratosis (11 patients, 14%), inflammatory lesions (10 patients, 13%), epidermal inclusion cyst (8 patients, 10%) and sudoriferous cyst (6 patients, 7%). Cutaneous nevi were most commonly seen in the seventh decade (40%), mean age was 51 years and 67% of patients were women. Papillomas were most commonly seen in the sixth decade (40%), mean age was 50 years and 53% of patients were women. Seborrheic keratoses were most commonly seen in the seventh decade (36%), mean age was 58 years and 82% of patients were men. Inflammatory lesions were most commonly seen in the sixth decade (50%), mean age was 59 years and male to female ratio was equal. Dis cus si on: Nevi and papillomas were the most common benign tumors of the eyelids. These were followed by seborrheic keratoses and inflammatory lesions. More than 50% of benign eyelid tumors are seen between the ages of 50 and 70. In this series of patients, nevi were more commonly encountered in women, whereas seborrheic keratoses were more common in men. (Turk J Ophthalmol 2012; 42: 43-6)
(Turk J Ophthalmol 2013; 43: 156-60) Anah tar Ke li me ler: Hayat kalitesi, pediatrik katarakt Sum mary Pur po se: To evaluate the quality of life (QOL) in children who had undergone surgery for pediatric cataract. Ma te ri al and Met hod: Twenty-five children were included in the study and were divided into two group according to age (group 1patients younger than 6 years and group 2-patients older than 7 years). A questionnaire was given to the patients and their parents to assess the QQL. The questionnaire had 4 parts evaluating the functional, social and surgical apprehensions of the parents and a part appraising the child's thought. This last part was answered by parents in group 1 and by children in group 2. The correlations between the questionnaire results and patient characteristics were assessed statistically. Re sults: The mean age was 3.5±1.6 (1.5-6) years in group 1 and 9.9±2.6 (7-15) years in group 2. Functional, social or surgical scores were 42.5 (0-80), 45 (5-100) and 63 (12.5-100) in group 1 and 40 (10-90), 70 (40-85) and 75 (25-100) in group 2, respectively. Functional, social or surgical scores were not significantly different between the groups. Social apprehensions were significantly higher in the parents of patients with preoperative strabismus in group 2 (Mann-Whitney U test, p=0.05). Dis cus si on: Pediatric cataracts have a great impact on children's life socially and functionally. Depending on the age at surgery, the visual acuity of the patients may vary, but the associated preoperative strabismus causes more social concern in the parents.
