Haemadipsoid leeches (Annelida: Hirudinea: Arhynchobdellida) occupy more than half of terrestrial leech species in the world (Sket & Trontelj, 2008), and are most common in tropical and subtropical rainforests in Indo-Pacific and Australian region (Borda et al., 2008).They are generalist ectoparasites that live and reproduce primarily by feeding on the blood of a variety of vertebrates, including amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals including humans (Schnell et al., 2015). They can be found on the forest floor and lower vegetation 1-2 m above the ground (Fogden & Proctor, 1985), and are common nuisances for local people, tourists, and researchers. However,
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
