Bis(2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl)methane derivatives have been efficiently converted to their corresponding spirans through three methods, i.e. oxidation by TCCA under mild reaction conditions, Ph 3 Bi catalyzed air oxidation, and by electrochemical reaction. The first two methods are diastereoselective and give either of the two possible diastereomers, while the electrochemical method produces equal amounts of these diastereomers.
Benzofuran derivatives R 0070Oxidation of Bisnaphthols to Spironaphthalenones, Revisited. -Three alternative routes for the oxidative conversion of binaphthols (I) to corresponding spironaphthalenones are described. Oxidation by TCAA and the BiPh3-catalyzed air oxidation are diastereoselective furnishing either of the two possible diastereomers. Moreover, the microwave accelerated air oxidation and the electrosynthesis proceed under environmentally friendly conditions. -(KHORAMABADI-ZAD*, A.; YAVARI, I.; SHIRI, A.; BANI, A.; J. Heterocycl. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
