SUMMARYThe physical arid bacteriological properties of disposable and non-disposable suction units have been studied in the laboratory. The disposable units which operate at a lower suction pressure were found to be subject to spontaneous loss of vacuum, while positional change of the containers of the magnitude encountered in clinical practice could easily produce reversal of flow from the container. The incidence of contamination in the systems in a laboratory model designed to simulate the ward situation was higher in the disposable units.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
