Temperatures around 600°C., employed in present-day industrial turbines can by no means be the practical limit for heat resisting materials. This called upon the chemists, physicists and metallurgists all over the world to produce the extra high quality metals and alloys possessing high stressrupture values, good creep strength and damping capacity, considerable endurance and high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. High temperature alloys like "Nimonic 80" developed recently from subsequent investigations are lacking in ductility, and the fabrication of turbine blades by the usual forging operation becomes very difficult. The designers and manufacturers of gas turbines and jet engines have recently considered the possibility of using ceramic materials in high temperatures service.
