Introduction: Orthodontic treatment is performed to enhance one's aesthetics and morphological harmony and also to improve the function of the oral and maxillofacial region. Soft tissue analysis has always been an integral important part of diagnosis and treatment planning. Lip position has become one among the foremost important soft tissue analysis because it influences the occlusion, tooth stability and facial aesthetics. The aim of this study is to find out the relationship between upper lip morphology and proclination of anterior teethMaterials and methods: It is a single centered retrospective study conducted in a private dental institution in Chennai. The samples were taken from the patients who reported to the dental outpatient department from June 2019 to February 2021. The patient records were reviewed and analyzed. Inclusion criteria included age, gender, lip competency and lip length and proclination of anterior teeth. Proclination of teeth and lip competency were all done through photographic evaluation. Patients in the age group of 18-25 years, with proclination of teeth in the upper arch and class I malocclusion were selected. A total of 513 patients were included in the study. Results and discussion: A total of 513 patients' data were collected according to the criteria. Out of 513 patients 45%(238) were males and (54.2%) 278 were females. Patients in the age group of 18-25 years were selected. However, most of the patients concentrated within a small range with the highest percentage being 24 years(15.6%) and 22 years(15.6%) followed by 23 years(14.8%). 57.7% patients had competent lips, 30.8% had incompetent lips and 11.5% had potentially competent lips. 64.3% of patients had short lip and 35.7% had normal lip length. Class I malocclusion and proclination in the maxilla were seen in all 513 patients. Chi square test was done to assess the relationship between lip competency and Lip length (p<0.05 was considered statistically significant). Conclusion: According to our study it was suggestive that there is a relationship between the upper lip morphology and proclination of anterior teeth.
Tobacco use is one of the leading preventable causes of early death, disease around the world. India has a high prevalence rate of tobacco consumption, both smoking and smokeless forms. There are many types of chewing tobacco such as pan masala, khaini, mawa, snuff, zarda, mishri etc. The aim of this study is to find the prevalence rate of the type of chewing tobacco in tobacco users in patients reported to, Chennai. It's a retrospective cross-sectional study in a university setting. Case records were collected and analysed the data of 41000 patients between June 2019 and March 2020 from the private dental institution. A total of 194 cases were recorded with patients who have a habit of chewing tobacco. The data was tabulated with parameters such as age, gender, type of chewing tobacco and type of habit. Data was then imported to IBM-SPSS v20 for statistical analysis. Descriptive statistics was done for further analysis. Among types of chewing tobacco, pan masala was prevalent (55.7%), with male predilection being 92.3%. The common age group which was seen chewing tobacco was 18-30 years-28.4%, with type of habit being only chewing tobacco-87.1%. Within the limits of the study, prevalence was seen in males with 18-30 age group being the most affected. Pan masala was the most prevalent type of chewing tobacco followed by gutka. As pan and gutka are the most common types used in Chennai, it is more carcinogenic than other types of chewing tobacco and its usage is increasing among the youth. Precautions must be taken such as anti-tobacco intervention to decrease the consumption of tobacco which causes a decrease in chances of cancer formation.

A total of 100 participants who own a pet have taken the survey. The results were obtained and statistically analysed through SPSS software, chi square test was done to check the association and a p value of 0.05 was said to be statistically significant. The survey was conducted in the month of May, 2020..From the survey , it was evident that dogs were the most prevalent type of pet seen in most households(65%). In a question regarding the pets bath cycle, 63% of the participants bathe their pets once in 15 days, 26% of the participants bathe their pets once in 30 days, 7% of the participants bathe their pets once in 2 months and 4% participants bathe their pets very rarely. 79% of the pet owners comb their pets.57% participants reported that their pets had hairfall. 83% of the participants toilet trained their pets. Dental trauma or traumatic dental injuries is an emerging dental problem. Several studies showed that the prevalence of dental trauma has increased in the past few decades. Dental trauma can result in fracture, displacement or loss of a tooth. Dental trauma has been seen more in children who are involved in sports. The aim of the current study was to assess the prevalence of traumatic dental injuries among children less than 12 years old. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted where case records were collected and analysed the data of 86000 patients between June 2019 and March 2020 from a private dental institution. The data collected included children below 12 years of age with a history of dental trauma to anterior teeth. The data was tabulated with parameters such as age, gender, fractured tooth, classification of fractured tooth based on ellis classification. Data was imported to SPSS for statistical analysis. Descriptive analysis and chi-square test were used to compare the results. All values were considered statistically significant at P value< 0.005. In this study, boys were more affected (61.5%) with dental trauma compared to girl children. The most common age group involved was 10 to 12 years (66.7%) where the common tooth involved was maxillary central incisors (71.8%), with class 3 being the most common fracture (43.6%). We suggest that educational programs should be organized for the school teachers, children, and parents to improve their knowledge and timely management of dental trauma.
