The purpose of this study was to determine the difficulties of eleventh grade students in learning English at SMA Negeri 1 Batauga. The research design uses a mixed-method design, which is used to describe students' difficulties in learning English. The research subjects were 12 students. The place of this research is SMA Negeri 1 Batauga. The research data were collected through test and interview. Data were analyzed based on the type of analysis by Miles and Huberman—data reduction, presentation, and conclusion or verification. Based on the data obtained in the field, especially the results of test and interview, it can be concluded that the level of students’ learning achievement of SMA Negeri 1 Batauga is low. And the factor that affects the difficulty of students in learning English is the motivation or low interest of students in learning English. This is indicated by their indifference or reluctance to learn English. This reluctance has an impact on their mastery of English, especially English vocabulary and grammar as well as their reading and speaking comprehension skills. This is because students of SMA Negeri 1 Batauga rarely repeat English lessons at home and do not memorize English vocabulary gradually. The results of the interview also showed that the students' environment did not have a positive influence on students in learning. That includes English teacher and parental support.
This research intended to analyze EFL students’ problems in speaking. The type of this research was qualitative. This research was conducted in Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University. In the academic year 2019, this study centered on collecting data from the speaker and fourth semester English department students as the subjects of the research. The researchers used observations and interviews when gathering data. There were three stages to the process used in data analysis, which were data reduction, data show, and conclusion drawing. The method of study was taken based on Miles and Huberman (1984)1. The outcome of this study showed that lack of confidence, anxiety, shyness, fear of making errors, inadequate vocabulary, grammatical error and lack of exposure were the problems of the EFL students in speaking. The main problem of the research was ‘what are the problems faced by the students in learning vocabulary at the SMP Satap Palea?’ The research was case study. The subjects of the research were students and an English teacher in SMP Satap Palea at grade seven. The data of research were collected through test and interview. The data were analyzed through three steps adopted from Miles and Huberman; data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing. The result of this research showed that the result of test of the students of SMP Satap Palea was low. The problem faced by the students were lack or low motivation in learning English vocabulary, the students had low interest in learning English and lack of strategy used in learning vocabulary. It was indicated by the indifferent attitude or their reluctance to memorize English vocabulary. This reluctance impacted their mastery of English vocabulary. The students of SMP Satap Pelae rarely repeated their English lesson at home. The result of interview also indicated that student’s environment did not show positive impact for the students to learn, including the students peer.
The problem in this study was how were the students’ attitude in learning English at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Gu? This study aimed at determining and identifying students’ attitude in learning English in the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Gu. The design of this study was a descriptive qualitative. Subjects of the research were fifteen students of eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 2 Gu. Techniquies of data collection in this study were questionnaire and interviw. Techniques of data analysis used were data reduction, data display and conclusion. The result showed thwt te students had positive attitude in learning English, which consisted of aspect of cognitive attitude, aspect of affective attitude and aspect of behavior attitude. In all aspects students’ attitude were in the good category. Based on three aspects of attitudes, the most dominant aspect of attitude was the affective attitude aspect.
