Television is considered to be one of the most influential and powerful medium as it contributes a lot in determining the opinion of children regarding gender roles. In this context, the researchers attempted to investigate that how cartoon characters of different genders are represented and assigned roles and characteristics in children cartoon programs. For this purpose, the researchers analyzed 12 TV cartoon programs shown on Nickelodeon, Disney, Cartoon Network, and Pogo, from January 1st, 2017 to December 31str, 2017. The results of the study showed that male characters are given meaningfully more screen time and in the similar way they are more likely presented in leading roles in comparison to the female cartoon characters. However it was observed that there was no significant difference between cartoon characters of different genders regarding their representation as knowledgeable, intelligent, independent, ambitious, sporty, competent, and struggling against evils. Propaganda had always remained a very important tool to influence others. Many researchers had worked and synthesized the concept of propaganda. But there was still a lot to be done as the contemporary propaganda industries had given this phenomenon a very subtle structure. This particular research study aimed to analyze the propaganda definitions set forth by various propaganda researchers to develop a comprehensive definition of the concept. For this purpose definitions provided by thirty different propaganda scholars had been analyzed to identify various elements of propaganda. Fourteen most frequently occurring elements were identified. On the basis of these elements, a comprehensive definition of propaganda was constructed to enhance the propaganda literature of Pakistan, which was the target of international propaganda from last couple of decades. This research paper would open new horizons for Pakistani researchers in the field of propaganda.
The quality of the relationship between people manifested by spoken and wordless messages refers to the communication climate. The approach of people about how to feel about each other generates the communication climate. When people perceive they are desirable so it builds the productive communication climate. A negative climate makes it difficult for people, because it is hard to communicate. The purpose of present study is to find out impact of communication climate on conflict management styles among employees. The sample was consisted on N=295employees calculate by using G-power method. Employees were taken from different organizations of Multan .Communication Climate Inventory and Rahim Organizational conflict inventory were used to collect the data. The result shows that integrating and obliging styles of handling conflict are significantly correlated with supportive communication climate. The result also shows that dominating and avoiding styles are significantly correlated with Defensive communication climate. There is a significant impact of communication climate on conflict management styles among employees.
The war against terrorism was started by the Bush administration after the attacks of September 11th . In this context, America attacked Afghanistan in 2001 and Iraq in 2003 alongside British forces and NATO allies. The present article explored the agenda of the British press regarding War against Terrorism in British press. The study conducted thematic analysis of two mainstream British daily newspapers i.e. The Guardian and The Independent. The standpoint of the British press was inferred to find out either they supported the government stance or they adopted a critical viewpoint regarding these two wars. The results indicated that the British press advised their government to adopt responsible approach to deal with the crisis. Mostly, the issues related to terrorism, Al-Qaeda, US policies and British role in the war against terrorism dominated the news agenda of the British newspapers. The press stressed on the strong role of UNO during the war against terrorism.
Purpose: The present research seeks to explore the effects of Soap operas on television viewers. It had made comparative analysis of male and female viewer’s perception regarding the image of female empowerment as projected in soap operas. Design/Methodology/Approach: For this study, quantitative survey was conducted. By employing a framework of cultivation theory the effects of Star Plus soaps on the minds of viewers were examined. In this connection, 200 samples of respondents were drawn from the population by using purposive sampling technique. Findings: The results indicated that Star Plus soap operas had influenced the thinking of male and female respondents differently. Female respondents supported women’s equal rights for political, social and educational perspectives than male respondents. Female respondents rejected wife battering and honor killing than males. Overall, it was noticed that female viewers of soap operas considered that subservience attitude of women was the actual reason of females’ suffering in the society. Implications/Originality/Value: The findings suggest policy consideration to Pakistan Media industry regarding female’s portrayal in dramas. In Pakistan Urdu dramas are very popular in prime time. By projecting females in positive and strong roles, the concept of women empowerment can be disseminated in the society.
