ÖZETBazı bor bileşikleri (kalsiyum ve potasyum metaborat, sodyum tetraborat, susuz ve sulu çinko borat) su bazlı stiren akrilik boyaya üç farklı konsantrasyonda (% 1, 2 ve 3 m/m) ayrı ayrı ilave edildi. Boratlarla karşılaştırmak amacıyla amonyum polifosfat katkısıyla deneyler tekrarlandı. Katkılı boyaların alev geciktirme, duman bastırma ve iki bakteriye karşı (E.coli ve S.aureus) antibakteriyel etkinlikleri ile boyama özellikleri standart metotlar kullanılarak belirlendi. Sonuç olarak sodyum tetraboratın alev geciktirici ve duman bastırıcı katkı maddesi olarak bu boyalarda kullanılabileceği ve boyanın viskozitesinde gözlenen azalmanın, gerektiğinde kalınlaştırıcı kullanılarak giderilebileceği ileri sürüldü. Çinko boratın da alev geciktirme özelliğine ilave olarak, S.aureus bakterisine karşı etkin bir reaktif olduğu gözlendi. Bu iki borat bileşiğinin, boyanın boyama özelliklerini olumsuz etkilemediği belirlenen çalışmada, diğer borlu bileşiklerin de aleve ve dumana karşı kısmi etkinliğe sahip olduğu; ancak hiçbirinde antibakteriyel etkinliğin bulunmadığı ifade edildi.Anahtar Kelimeler: Boya, stiren akrilat, alev geciktirme, duman bastırma, borat, E. coli, S. Aureus FLAME RETARDATION, SMOKE SUPPRESSION AND ANTIBACTERIAL EFFICIENCIES OF BORON ADDITIVES IN STYRENE ACRYLIC PAINTS ABSTRACTSome boron compounds (calcium and potassium metaborates, sodium tetraborate, unhydrated and hydrated zinc borates) were separately added to water-based and styrene acrylic-structured top coat paints in three different concentrations (1, 2 and 3%). To compare the borates, the experiments were repeated with ammonium polyphospate additive. Their flame retardation, smoke suppression and antibacterial efficiencies against two bacteria (E.coli and S.aureus) as well as dyeing properties were determined by using standard methods. As a result, it was proposed that sodium tetraborate may be used as a flame retardant and smoke suppressant additive in these paints and,if necessary, any decrase in the viscosity of paint resulting from it may be compensated for by using a thickener. In addition to its property of flame retardation, zinc borate may also be used as a cheap and effective agent against S.aureus bacterium. It was also shown that these additives, sodium tetraborate and/or zinc borate, do not negatively affect dyeing properties while certain advantages are provided to the paint by them. The other borates also had partial the flame retardation and smoke suppression efficiencies. However, none of them showed the resistance against the two bacteria used.
