The essential oil composition of Centaurea pullata L. was obtained by water distillation, yielding 0.03% of oil on dry weight basis. The oil composition was analyzed by a combination of GC and GC/MS techniques. Sixty components, representing 83.1% of the total oil, were identified, six of which have not been previously reported in Centaurea oils. The principal constituents were identified as caryophyllene oxide (27.0%), phytol isomer (16.5%) and 6,10,14-trimethyl 2-pentadecanone (14.9%). These results show remarkable qualitative and quantitative differences with previously reported studies for Centaurea species.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
