Literature has proved that implant-retained overdenture is one of the best prosthetic options in the rehabilitation of complete edentulism. Tissue-supported implant-retained overdentures have been an appropriate treatment modality for atrophic mandibular ridges. In this case report, the patient presented with Class I maxillomandibular relationship and Class II Prosthodontic Diagnostic Index. The patient was concerned about esthetics as well as the retention of the lower denture. Taking into consideration the above concerns, an implant-retained mandibular overdenture was the chosen treatment modality. There are numerous attachment systems that have been used to improve the retention, stability, and support of implant-retained overdenture. Every attachment system has its own set of advantages. The OT Equator is a new line of low-profile attachment which is a radically modified OT-CAP Normo. The rationale for using this attachment is that it is considered the smallest attachment system available with the least overall dimension. It is a resilient and self-aligning attachment system which can be used in limited inter-arch space situation. OT equator derives its name from the OT Dental Laboratory (Bologna, Italy) used as a brand name. Considering these advantages, this was the chosen attachment and proved beneficial in terms of both patient satisfaction and the overall success of the treatment.
Fluorosis is a crippling disease and an ongoing challenge for India. It is a public health problem caused by excess intake of fluoride through drinking water, food products and industrial pollutants over a long period of time. Ingestion of excess fluoride, most commonly in drinking-water affects the teeth and bones. Repeated exposure to high concentrations of fluoride during tooth development, leading to enamel with reduced mineral content and increased porosity. Selection of appropriate treatment plan depends upon the severity of fluorosis. Porcelain laminate veneers are considered the treatment of choice for moderate to severe cases of fluorosis given the optimum aesthetics, wear resistance, biocompatibility, and long-term results of these veneers. This case report describes a step-by-step rehabilitation of dental fluorosis, using porcelain laminate veneers in a 28-year-old Indian female.
Rehabilitation of the maxillectomy defects is a challenge in terms of retention, stability, mastication, and speech. Conventional clasp designs sometimes fail to provide adequate retention, stability, and support in cases of large defects, and precision attachments are good alternatives. The use of precision attachments in partially dentate maxillectomy patients can significantly improve the functions of speech and mastication, also maintaining Esthetics. The present clinical report describes the interdisciplinary approach in rehabilitation of a partially dentate maxillectomy patient using a precision attachment retained hollow bulb definitive obturator prosthesis.
