Background: Malignant skin tumors are an important public health problem. Exposure to UV radiation is a significant risk factor in the development of these tumors. The most common skin malignancies are basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, which have an excellent prognosis and a relatively low mortality rate. Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was done on 46 cases with histopathological diagnoses of malignant skin tumors, over a period of two years, in a tertiary care centre in Bagalkot, with the primary objective to demonstrate distribution of cases according to age, sex and site of these tumors. Results: Malignant skin tumors were most commonly seen in the age group of 51 to 60 years (30.5%). Male to female ratio was 2.2:1. Squamous cell carcinoma (56.5%) was the most common tumor followed by basal cell carcinoma (21.7%), verrucous carcinoma (10.9%) and malignant melanoma (4.3%). Rare tumors such as sebaceous carcinoma and trichilemmal tumor were also noted in this study. Conclusion: Histopathology remains the gold standard for the diagnosis, management and follow-up of patients with malignant skin tumors.
Xanthogranulomatous orchitis (XGO) is a rare, distinct type of chronic inflammation causing destruction of the tissue by infiltrate of lipid laden macrophages. It is commonly seen in the gall bladder, kidney and is rarely reported in the testis. Authors hereby, report report a case of a 32-year-old man who presented with a swelling in the right testis since 3 weeks. On clinical examination, ultrasound findings, a provisional diagnosis of testicular neoplasm was made. Simple right orchidectomy was performed and on histopathological examination the testis was found to be replaced with large lipid laden macrophages (Xanthoma cells) along with lymphocytes, foci of necrosis and hemorrhage, a diagnosis of XGO was rendered. The preoperative diagnosis of XGO is very challenging as the condition often mimics a testicular neoplasm, thus the final diagnosis relies on the histopathological examination. Extensive sampling of the tissue should be done to rule out any concurrent testicular neoplasm
Osseous metaplasia has been described at many sites, however previous reports of osseous metaplasia in ovarian lesions are rare. This is most commonly associated with dermoid cyst, osseous metaplasia in stroma rich in serous or mucinous neoplasm and ossification of endometriotic cyst (chocolate cyst). Here The authors report a case of incidental finding of osseous metaplasia in the endometriotic cyst (chocolate cyst) of resected ovary in 42-year-old female who had gone for total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for provisional diagnosis of AUB.
Tuberculosis is a global health problem mainly affecting people in developing countries although muscular involvement
is rarely seen. Authors hereby, describe a case of tuberculosis of triceps muscle in a 35-year-old immunocompetent female
who presented with swelling in right upper arm. Radiological examination ruled out involvement of underlying bones. Excision biopsy was
performed and on histopathological examination cyst wall showed presence of foamy macrophages in sheets, inammatory cells and few
scattered epithelioid cells but no well-formed granulomas or giant cells were seen. ZN stain for acid fast bacilli was positive. Based on the above
ndings a diagnosis of tuberculosis of triceps muscle was made. The patient responded well to antituberculosis therapy and is currently on follow
up.
