Bleach is widely used in consumer goods for its ability to deliver cleaning, disinfection, stain removal and whiteness as well as for its ability to react with dye precursors to deliver different color shades in hair colorants. This article describes the evolution of bleach actives to date, their mechanism of action, their manufacturing as well as the fabric, home and hair care formulations and products that leverage bleach.
