CONCLUSIONOxybutynin topical gel (Gelnique) offers a modestly effective alternative to oral medications for treatment of overactive bladder. How it compares in efficacy to other formulations of oxybutynin or to any other antimuscarinic drug approved to treat overactive bladder remains to be determined. The gel may cause a lower incidence of local skin reactions than the transdermal patch formulation of oxybutynin and might, like the patch, cause less dry mouth and constipation than oral formulations.
