Case studies of memory-impaired individuals consistently show that reminiscing with SenseCam images enhances event recall. This exploratory study examined whether a similar benefit would occur for the consolidation of memories in memory-unimpaired people. We tested delayed recall for atypical actions observed on a lengthy walk. Participants used SenseCam, a diary, or no external memory aid while walking, followed by reminiscence with SenseCam images, diary entries, or no aid, either alone (self-reminiscence) or with the experimenter (social reminiscence). One week later, when tested without SenseCam images or diary entries, prior social reminiscence produced greater recall than self-reminiscence, but there were no differences between memory aid conditions for action free recall or action order recall. When methodological variables were controlled, there was no recall advantage for SenseCam reminiscence with memory-unimpaired participants. The case studies and present study differ in multiple ways, making direct comparisons problematic. SenseCam is a valuable aid to the memory impaired, but its mnemonic value for non-clinical populations remains to be determined.
This paper builds a game‐theoretic model to examine online retailers' decisions of whether to introduce a new brand and whether to sell it in reselling or agency selling mode if introduced, given one existing brand supplier ex ante. We find it is not always more profitable for the online retailer to introduce the new brand. Interestingly, when determining to introduce the new brand, the online retailer may prefer the agency selling mode even though the commission fee becomes negligible and may not choose the agency selling even if the retailer can earn all sale profit as commission.
Spiromaterpenes are a group of rare
tropone-containing sesquiterpenes
with antineuroinflammatory activity. Herein, we elucidate their
biosynthetic pathway in a deep-sea-derived Spiromastix sp. fungus by heterologous expression, biochemical characterization,
and incubation experiments. The sesquiterpene cyclase SptA was first
characterized to catalyze the production of guaia-1(5),6-diene, and
a multifunctional cytochrome P450 catalyzed the tropone ring formation.
These results provide important clues for the rational mining of bioactive
guaiane-type sesquiterpenes and expand the repertoire of P450 activities
to synthesize unique building blocks of natural products.
This paper constructs a game‐theoretic model to examine one manufacturer's optimal selling mode choice for the new‐version product between reselling and agency selling, given the old‐version product already sold in different selling modes ex ante. We find that the manufacturer would formulate reselling for the new‐version product when its unit production cost remains high but agency selling when such cost becomes low. Moreover, we show the manufacturer may be better off through discontinuing the sale of the old‐version product when selling modes are additionally considered. Finally, we discuss optimal selling mode choices from the aspect of the retailer.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
