One of the most important issues in the current tourism in Japan is to identify the ways to build attractive cities and/or towns and to provide satisfying experience of tourism products. It is therefore necessary to understand the kind of needs and wants potential tourists can obtain from their touring experience. Particularly effective for this purpose is an Area Marketing and Management Approach (AMMA). This paper introduces a basic framework of the AMMA and proposes a practical procedure for quantitatively measuring the effect of accessibility improvement on tourist travel demand and activity patterns. It discusses a practical method for measuring accessibility improvement effect, focusing on the increase of the number of visitors to the tourism areas where the level of service in accessing transport facilities is planned to be improved. Also added in the paper is an empirical case study with a tourism area in Japan.
Recently, the study on the commercialization technology of Rope Platform Screen Door (RPSD) is on the process. The study is specifically on RPSD, which the rope screen ascends to allow passage with securing safety of passenger and the condition of aboveground station. For this human-centered design of RPSD, it is important to present system technology. However, it is also necessary to scientifically measure and research the emotions, senses or minds of users in the future. Therefore, this study analyzed the human factors to be considered with designing the system on RPSD, which is installed in Nokdong Station on Gwangju Subway as a trial. Moreover, the emotional evaluation was done by analyzing the factors as how they are effected in general; it processed by checking whether it is safe, height of rope is stable, it has openness (pressure) or strong by examining the moments that a set of ropes blocks rail from platform, and when train is arrived.
This study is focused on the effect of reformation of public transportation system on the efficiency of bus route system as a result of change of government subsidy scheme. Two types of government subsidy scheme has been considered and before and after analysis by Data Envelopment Analysis technique has been carried out for bus routes in Ulsan Metropolitan City. The analysis output has shown that there is no clear evidence to clarify the relationship between the change of government subsidy scheme and the efficiency of bus route system. There are two types of backgrounds may be suggested for this situation such as more longer period necessary to identify the policy effect and limitation to increase the number of passenger in a provincial city. Tobit regression analysis has also been conducted to discover the most effective variables for maximum efficiency and three variables including route length, frequency per vehicle per day, and headway are found to be influential. It is also seen that strategy to minimising input factors and service upgrade plan such as shortened route length and headway, increasing frequency per vehicle are necessary to develop the efficiency of bus routes operated in Ulsan city.
