RESUMO: Este artigo tem por objetivo investigar como, nos romances Um rio chamado tempo, uma casa chamada terra e A varanda do frangipani, do escritor moçambicano Mia Couto, a trajetória de vida de seus protagonistas está simbolicamente ligada à uma necessidade de valorização das culturas tradicionais, vistas como desprestigiadas no atual momento histórico da sociedade de Moçambique. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Mia Couto; tradição, modernidade ABSTRACT: This paper intends to investigate how, in mozambican writer Mia Couto's novels Um rio chamado tempo, uma casa chamada terra and A varanda do frangipani, the life story of the leading characters is symbolically linked to the a need to give praise to the traditional cultures of the country, seem as under-appreciated in the present historical moment of Mozambique's society.
