SUMMARYWe have previously suggested that colorectal liver metastases might produce 'toxins' that reduce both quality of life (QoL) and survival. In this study we assessed whether QoL in patients with such metastases was related to immune activation, as determined by increased serum levels of interleukin 6 (1L6), soluble tumour necrosis factor receptor 1 (sTNFrl), soluble interleukin 2 receptor alpha (slL2ra) or the interferon-y marker neopterin. sIL2ra, sTNFrl and 1L6 levels were higher, the ability of slL2ra to predict HAD depression score was independent of survival.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
