The ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of strontium bismuth tantalate Sr x Bi y Ta 2 O 9 (Sr x Bi y T) ceramics were investigated. Well developed P(polarization)-E(electric field) hysteresis loops were observed for all samples except for the Sr 1.0 Bi y T(y>2) ceramics. A large remanent polarization (2P r =26 µC/cm 2 ) was observed for the Sr 0.8 Bi 2.15 T ceramics sintered at 1150ºC. For the Sr 0.8 Bi 2.2 T ceramics, the determined electromechanical coupling factor (k p = 9.7%) and mechanical quality factor (Q m = 4500) with a radial-extensional mode were obtained. Those of the stoichiometric SBT ceramics are k p = 4.0%. The cation vacancy and/or Bi incorporation into the Sr site of SrBi 2 Ta 2 O 9 were effective for enhancement of the electromechanical coefficients.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
