0 ≤ x ≤ 2 are prepared by solid state reaction of stoichiometric mixtures of SrCO3, La2O3, Fe2O3, and Ir powder (air, 900 and 1100°C for 24 h each). The phases are characterized by powder XRD, Moessbauer spectroscopy, magnetic, specific heat, and electrical resistivity measurements. The compounds crystallize in the monoclinic space group P21/n with a significant degree of Fe/Ir disorder. The end members of the system, Sr 2 FeIrO 6 and La2FeIrO6, exhibit an antiferromagnetic ground state while compounds in the intermediate region with x ≈ 1 show ferrimagnetic order. Sr2FeIrO6 might be a Mott insulator. The Sr-based compounds are compared with the Ca2-xLaxFeIrO6 series. -(BUFAICAL*, L.; ADRIANO, C.; LORA-SERRANO, R.; DUQUE, J. G.
