Mandibular anterior crowding is caused by a variety of factors. Mandibular incisor crowding can be caused by a number of causes including incisor and molar inclination, early loss of deciduous molars, mandibular growth, and oral musculature. The study was aimed to perform an association of the lower anterior crowding severity with gender and type of malocclusion. The current study was performed in a hospital setup and data about mandibular arch crowding patients were collected from the Records management system of a Private Dental Hospital in Chennai city. All the patient data on Mandibular arch crowding were sourced and tabulated after which statistical analysis with SPSS-IBM was done. Data collection was done over a period from June 2019 to February 2021. The entire study sample size was 634 case records. The result obtained from the statistical analysis was found that nearly 46% of the patients were found to have Mandibular arch crowding with female predilection (50%). The most commonly associated age groups were children than adults (63.2%) associated with mild type of crowding (65.1%). The most commonly involved malocclusion was found to be Class 1 (88.4%) Mild imbrications of the lower arch were common and were seen mainly in subjects with Class I malocclusion. Female subjects presented with more prevalence of mandibular arch crowding when compared to male subjects. Children were more affected by crowding than adults.
The purpose of this study is to find negligence of early dental treatment. This research fulfils by providing insight on parents' care towards the child. The aim of our study is to find the prevalence of root stumps of primary teeth in pediatric patients. The current study was a comparative, descriptive and retrospective study which was performed under a university setting where all the data of patients with root stumps of primary teeth were collected by reviewing patients records and analysed the data of 86000 patients between June 2019 to March 2020. The collected data were tabulated; statistical analysis was done by SPSS – IBM. The study showed that out of 2360 extractions, 35 (1.5%)was found to be root stumps of primary teeth. The root stumps were more prevalent among four years of age (42.86%) with female predilection (81.25%) and the higher incidence with maxillary 2nd molars (11.4%). The prevalence of tooth loss was found to be high in children as well as the adults so dental professionals should utilize the various measures and protocols available in preventive dentistry to minimise the effects of tooth loss.
The presence of dental caries is the main reason for the placement and replacement of restorations. Maintaining restorations to a satisfactory clinical condition is a big challenge for the practitioners. The aim of the study is to associate the age and gender of the patients who underwent amalgam restorations in mandibular premolars with class 1 dental caries. This was a descriptive study, where all the patients data were collected by reviewing patients records and analysing the data of 86000 patients reported from June 2019 to March 2020 to the Department of conservative dentistry and endodontics, Private Dental college and hospitals, Chennai. Data was collected and tabulated, statistical analysis was done by SPSS – IBM. In this study, we observed that there is a significant difference between the age, gender and tooth number of patients who underwent amalgam restoration in mandibular premolar with class 1 dental caries. Amalgam restoration has served the profession well, and it is very useful in restorative dentistry. Thus the use of amalgam can be continued as a material of choice if esthetics is not a concern.
The World Health Organization has named tobacco products as one of the greatest causes for several diseases in the world . It has been estimated that 100 million deaths were caused by tobacco and its products in the 20th century. If this situation continues , there will be up to one billion deaths in the 21st century. The cigarettes packages serve as a cornerstone of tobacco marketing and advertising campaigns. The aim of this study is to assess the awareness about pictorial warnings on tobacco products in tobacco users among outpatients department of Private Dental college.The current study was a questionnaire based and it was conducted in the Saveetha Dental college ,Chennai,India . Nearly 180 tobacco users were recruited from the random sampling method .Only systemically healthy individuals with good mental health participated in the study. The data was collected by a self designed , close ended structure questionnaire which comprised 21 questions and was prepared and given to the participants. The results obtained from the participants were analysed and interpreted .Most of the study participants were males with the mean age of 30-50 years and 89% of the participants were aware of statutory and pictorial warnings present on the tobacco products. Majority of the subjects (75%) said pictorial representation on the tobacco packets does not refrain them from i tobacco intake. The pictorial warnings are helpful to some extent but require more strengthening to make pictorial health warnings easier to comprehend to assess the deleterious effects of tobacco by its consumers and general public.
