A modified Thomson parabola ion spectrometer of a wide dynamic range for studies of flash ions emitted from laser produced plasmas was developed. The exact velocity distributions of different ion species were obtained separately with sufficient velocity resolution.
The first successful fabrication of a cryogenic foam target is reported. Detailed techniques to ensure accurate fuel loading in the foam shell are described. This target has been used for implosion experiments with the Gekko XII glass laser.
