Objetivo: A limpeza e modelagem do canal radicular são etapas importantes do tratamento endodôntico, e pode influenciar no sucesso final do tratamento. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a modelagem dos instrumentos reciprocantes Wave One Gold (WOG – Dentisply, Maillefer, Baillagues, Suiça) e W-File (WF – TDK, Shenzlen superfine Technology Co, China) em canais radiculares simulados. Materiais e Métodos: foram utilizados 20 blocos de acrílico, divididos em dois grupos (n=10): grupo 1 - WOG; grupo 2 – WF. Antes do preparo do canal radicular, a patência dos canais foi verificada com uma lima K #10. Imagens fotográficas do pré e pós-operatório foram obtidas para posterior sobreposição e análise em software de imagem (Adobe Photoshop CS5.1). A análise estatística foi feita utilizando teste T e o teste Mann Whitney. Resultados: mais resina foi removida do lado externo da curva pelo instrumento Wave One Gold em todos os pontos examinados (p < 0.05). Em relação ao transporte do canal, houve diferenças significativas no orifício do canal (p < 0,05). O instrumento Wave One Gold apresentou preparos mais largos. Concluiu-se que tanto o instrumento Wave One Gold, tanto W-File são seguros para uso em canais curvos, promovendo boa limpeza e modelagem, sendo que o WF obteve preparos mais conservadores.
in relation to the activities of innovation management, intellectual property (IP) and technology transfer (TT) performed at each university. The structure of the universities and of their Technology Transfer Offices, the legislation on innovation of each country, patents deposited and cases of technology transfer are presented. The objective is to compare the activities developed in the different realities and to seek, through best practices, a possibility to adapt those practices to the Brazilian case. The data were derived from the revision of the literature especially regarding the legislation on innovation, from the databases of the universities, and from an interview with the director of the ULR value, Prof. Jean-Marc Wallet. It was noticed that the universities have almost the same age and share the same efforts to develop research, teaching and extension activities. The ULR has a structure different from UESC regarding to the management of innovation processes, IP and TT, which allows, by means of legal provisions, greater flexibility in their actions, resulting in more successful and agile processes of technology transfer.
Context: The use of chemicals solutions and means of activation is of utmost importance in endodontic treatment. Aims: This study compared three activation techniques used in the final irrigation of the endodontic treatment. Subjects and Methods: Eighty uniradicular teeth were instrumented with the Protaper Universal system up to F4 file. After decalcification, the teeth had artificial lateral canals created at 2, 4.5 and 6 mm from working length (WL). The groups were randomly divided into four groups ( n = 20): control group (C), passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI) group, continuous ultrasonic irrigation (CUI) group, and easy clean (EC) group. The penetration of the irrigant into the samples was evaluated using image observation using the Image J program. Statistical Analysis Used: The level of agreement among the observers was determined by the Cronbach's alpha test. The likelihood ratio test was used to evaluate possible differences between the groups and the Kendall's W statistic test to verify possible differences between the irrigant penetration levels in the lateral canals. The Fisher's exact test was applied to verify differences by the studied group considering the WL variables and lateral canals. Results: The results showed no statistical difference in the penetration of the irrigator in the main canal when compared to the C, PUI, CUI, and EC groups ( P > 0.05). Conclusions: The method using a positive syringe and needle pressure was not able to effectively carry the irrigator to the artificially made lateral canals, whereas PUI, CUI, and EC were equally efficient in this regard ( P < 0.01).
Instrumentation is a fundamental step in endodontic treatment to promote proper cleaning and shaping of the canal. The objective of this study was to compare the cutting capacity of two reciprocal nickel-titanium systems in simulated canal blocks. Sixty acrylic blocks were used, divided into two groups of reciprocal files (WaveOne Gold - WOG and W-File - WF), each with 30 blocks and divided into 3 groups (n=10) representing the first, second and third uses: WOG1, WOG2, WOG3, WF1, WF2, and WF3, respectively. Ink was injected into the simulated channels, which were covered with laminated paper to avoid affecting the instrumentation. For irrigation, 5mL of saline was used at each instrument change. At the end of instrumentation, the blocks were photographed and analyzed in a computer program to compare the results before and after instrumentation. In the statistical analysis, the tests S Shapiro-Wilk, T for independent samples and Mann Whitney were performed. Under the experimental conditions in which this study was conducted, it is concluded that there were no significant differences in apical transport after the third application. However, the instruments of the W-File group had more conservative preparations with a better centralization capacity compared to the instruments of the WaveOne Gold group, which caused preparations with a larger diameter.
As lesões faciais, incluindo-se nestas as fraturas dos ossos que a compõem, assumem um papel de destaque nos atendimentos a pacientes politraumatizados nas emergências gerais, levando por muitas vezes a graves sequelas psico-motoras e sociais aos acometidos. Objetivo: Realizar um levantamento dos dados epidemiológicos de vítimas de traumas bucomaxilofaciais, atendidas no Hospital de base Luís Eduardo Magalhães em Itabuna/BA. Métodos: Foram utilizados 118 prontuários totalizando 147 fraturas. Os dados analizados foram: gênero, idade, cidade na qual o paciente reside, etiologia da fratura e sua localização, sendo tabulados, organizados e descritos com a utilização do programa Microsoft Excel e Word (versão 2016). Resultados: Observou-se uma predominância masculina (76,27%), e a faixa etária mais prevalente foi entre 24 e 34 anos, sendo 32 a idade que mais se repertiu e 47,5 anos a média das idades. A mandíbula foi o osso mais afetado, o que representou 34,01%, tendo os acidentes motociclísticos como principal etiologia e Itabuna a cidade com mais pacientes. Conclusão: Sendo os adultos jovens os pacientes mais afetados e os acidentes de trânsito, principalmente os motociclísticos, como principal etiologia, nota-se que tais fraturas poderiam ser evitadas com o incremento de mais medidas educativas no trânsito e uma maior punição aos motoristas imprudentes torna-se imprescincível na dimunuição de tal patologia.
