This article studies the implicit denunciation of Enrique IV de Castilla (1454-1474 that is found in the Defunzión del noble cauallero Garcia Laso de la Vega, a poetic elegy composed by the Castilian knight Gómez Manrique (c. 1415-1490) in honour of his ally who was killed during a skirmish in the Granadan territories. Textual analysis presents the various literary techniques, in particular the employment of antithesis and the descriptions of the profound sadness of the deceased's loved ones, which serve to contrast Garcilaso's bravery with Enrique's apparently inadequate respect for his vassal. The perceived 'Islamophilia' of the king is also explored in order to show that for Manrique and his cohorts, Enrique's mistreatment of Garcilaso served as the first example of the monarch's lack of respect for the institution of knighthood.CarlW.Atlee BHS, 87(2010) pues que njnguna ley obljgaua a los caualleros a mas que moryr (Casas Horns 1962:1, 30)' ¡Dios, que buen vassalo! ¡Si oviesse buen señor ! {PMC 1989:137)
