THE DEPOSITIONAL ARCH]TECTURE OF THE MAR]ZAL FORMATION (EARLY CRETACEOUS) IN THE RECÔUC'qVOBASIN, BAHIA The Early Cretaceous Marizal Fornation, which is a ploduct of fluvial and alluvial fan systems, is about 50rn thick in The Reconcavo Basin, BA, Bra2il. This fonnation changes gradually from óonglomerates into sandstones and mudstones. The presence of good continuous out"roþ., was essential to the architsctutal element anâlysis. This method was_used to subdivide the fluvial deposits into one ot mole sets of nine basic ihiee dimensional architectural elements. These ele¡]]ents were identified according to their lithofacies assemblage, internal geometry, and the nature of the upper and lower contacts. The-study of outctops in.the.proximal provided key infotn.ration to identify regions ítt" SC (íê¿i¡¡"nt gravity flows) änd GB (gravel bars and bedformi) elements.
