Organizations must strive to increase competitiveness and to improve the economic and social conditions of the environment in which they work, thus creating shared value. Corruption and crime limit social development, government effectiveness, and the conditions in which private companies operate. For this reason, based on the shared value theory, the purpose of this research is to make a co-relation analysis between what micro and small enterprises (MSEs) think of the increase in sales and the risk of closing their business, with respect to corruption and crime. The study was made to a sample by convenience of 484 MSEs in the southern area of Bogotá, which work in different industrial and service activities, using a validated questionnaire of 99 items that ask about corruption and crime.
The purpose of this chapter is to identify the labor inclusion practices of Colombian micro and small enterprises (MSEs). Building a more fair and equal society requires an organizational culture and clear policies for labor inclusion. MSEs are organizations that can contribute to this purpose given their importance because they are the source of employment of more than 16 million Colombian people and generate 80% of the jobs in this country. Through descriptive research, and by applying a questionnaire to 78 MSEs from different sectors nationwide, it was possible to determine the labor inclusion practices followed by these organizations. It is mainly concluded that labor inclusion practices by the MSEs surveyed are not high. Of the 78 companies that participated in this study, which were selected from a non-random convenience sample, less than half (41%) have hired vulnerable people and have in their organizations between one and three collaborators in situation of vulnerability.
The purpose of this book chapter is to inform on the perception of anti-bribe practices in Colombian companies, on some aspects of bribe in Colombia, on the relationship between bribe and poverty, and to present the most shocking bribe case in Colombia. To achieve the objective, a literature review is carried out by selecting publications on bribes and corruption, in particular on the Odebrecht-Colombia case, and on the relationship between bribery and corruption. The process begins with the description of the phenomenon of bribes in general and the different types of bribes. Following, the relationship between bribery and poverty is established, and finally, the most shocking case of bribery in Colombia is presented. The results show that there are bribe practices in Colombia despite adopting different legal mechanisms. In Colombia, there is the need to continue adopting coercive measures, and to develop a culture from education to form law-abiding citizens for the benefit of society.
The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the management practices in chaotic environments followed by micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Bogota, specifically in the neighborhoods of Candelaria, Bosa, Puente Aranda, and Tunjuelito to generate sales and profit. In order to accomplish the foregoing, a co-relation analysis is made among the management practices that can be implemented by MSEs in sales and profit when faced with chaotic environments. The management practices used as independent variables in this study were human resources management, market analysis, suppliers, direction management, finance, sales, production-operation, innovation, marketing, and entrepreneurial responsibility. The dependent variables considered were annual sales and profit.
The purpose of this chapter is to present the relationship between sustainability of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in turbulent environments and technology. To achieve this objective, a questionnaire structured and validated in 2020 by the Latin American Studies Network in Management and Business (RELAYN, its abbreviation in Spanish) was applied to 401 directors of MSEs located in the neighborhoods of Candelaria, Bosa, Puente Aranda, and Tunjuelito in Bogota. For the development of this research, a correlational analysis is made, evaluating the degree of association between the variables of perception of knowledge and use of technologies and the increase in sales, increase in profit, and reduction of risk of closure of the establishment. The results show an association between the components of technology with the increase in sales, increase in profit, and reduction of risk of closure of the establishment.
