Mashups have become a prominent approach for building interactive web applications from distributed web resources. While the number of web APIs and services is growing, it becomes increasingly hard to find the right "ingredients" and to resolve incompatibilities between them. Semantics have been successfully applied in the web service domain to support the automatic composition of applications. Based on this idea, our approach supports the automatic semanticsbased composition of presentation-oriented mashup applications. It includes a universal semantic model for mashup components, corresponding discovery and ranking mechanisms, as well as concepts for semantic data mediation. We have integrated our results with the composition platform CRUISe and successfully proved its sufficiency and validity.
