The results of this three-part, user-centered information needs assessment were used to develop an evidence-based strategic plan. The findings confirmed the importance of promoting library services in the organization and suggested expanded, collaborative roles for hospital librarians.
Clinicians observed in a study that included six ambulatory settings did not appear to be taking advantage of the hospital library services available to them. This article discusses four tentative explanations for this situation, using anecdotes from observation field notes to illustrate. The article suggests possible responses to the problems discussed and calls for further investigation of hospital library services provided in ambulatory settings.
