Endothelial dysfunction (ED), which is often evaluated by flow-mediated vasodilation (FMV) in the brachial artery, has been postulated as a predictor of cardiac events. Although the upper and forearm location of the occlusion device have been used for FMV evaluation, currently there is no consensus whether they provide the same information. The main goal of this study was to evaluate if both techniques have the same accuracy to differentiate subjects with and without cardiovascular risk factors (CRFs). A cross-sectional study in 124 subjects was performed. The volunteers were divided in two groups: 62 subjects (20 women and 42 men) with at least one CRF and 62 (20 women and 42 men) healthy subjects without CRFs. FMV measurements using the cuff in the upper arm and forearm with intervals of 30 min were taken. In all subjects, %FMV with the cuff located in the upper arm was 10.13 +/- 4.5 and 9.8 +/- 4.1 with the cuff located below the elbow. In healthy subjects without CRFs the %FMV in the upper arm was 12.19 +/- 4.0 versus 12.31 +/- 3.4 in the upper forearm, in CRF subjects it was 8.08 +/- 4.0 vs 7.29 +/- 3.2., respectively. FMV was not affected by the location of the cuff in maintaining the test ability and accuracy to differentiate subjects with and without CRFs.
Purpose This paper aims to explore the benefits of embedding a records manager into a team of university administrators to help them address their information management needs. Design/methodology/approach The paper describes an experience that was inspired by reports of successful experiences with embedded librarianship. The literature on records management culture and embedded librarianship is reviewed to identify best practices and criteria for success. These criteria are used to design and implement a pilot project where, rather than hiring a consultant, a records manager is embedded into a quality assurance team working at a large university in Canada. Findings The project is a success in conventional terms (e.g. active files reduced; duplicates deleted; inactive files archived; naming conventions, version control and access rights applied); however, similar results could have been achieved using a consultant. More interesting are the added benefits achieved through embedding. Added benefits included identifying workflow inefficiencies, identifying terminological inconsistencies, iterative training opportunities and useful knowledge sharing outside the project’s scope. The argument is made that an embedded information professional is better able to appreciate the organizational culture, which in turn facilitates the establishment of trusted relationships and produces an overall added value for the entire team. Originality/value There is very little, if any, current literature that explores the value of embedding a records manager into a team, rather than simply hiring a consultant to address information management needs. The outcome of this pilot project will benefit those who are seeking to develop a model for embedding an information professional into their organization to gain an added value.
This article documents Open access article processing charges (OA APC) longitudinal study 2015 preliminary dataset available for download from the OA APC dataverse [1]. This dataset was gathered as part of Sustaining the Knowledge Commons (SKC), a research program funded by Canada's Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. The overall goal of SKC is to advance our collective knowledge about how to transition scholarly publishing from a system dependent on subscriptions and purchase to one that is fully open access. The OA APC preliminary data 2015 Version 12 dataset was developed as one of the lines of research of SKC, a longitudinal study of the minority (about a third) of the fully open access journals that use this business model. The original idea was to gather data during an annual two-week census period. The volume of data and growth in this area makes this an impractical goal. For this reason, we are posting this preliminary dataset in case it might be helpful to others working in this area. Future data gathering and analyses will be conducted on an ongoing basis. We encourage others to share their data as well. In order to merge datasets, note that the two most critical elements for matching data and merging datasets are the journal title and ISSN.Data Set: http://dataverse.scholarsportal.info/dataverse/oaapc Data Set License: There is no license for the dataset as a whole, as individual elements are derived from different sources, which may have their own terms.
Forensic analysis is to determine the causes of compromise security of a system. At present general rules and principles as the International Organization for Digital Evidence (IOCE) they are known. The aim of the study was to characterize Colombian law as to the specific and necessary for the design of computer technical regulations regarding the extraction of digital evidence to anchor the chain of custody. A descriptive documentary research and applied type was used, by analyzing different sources on information systems, integrity, confidentiality and availability of data in judicial custody. Current regulations allow substantiate the use of computer techniques to extract digital evidence and ensure the chain of custody, based on the constitutional protection of the right to privacy, so they must respect freedom and promote other warranties. Regulations also relies on Law 527 of August 18, 1999 which is magnetic and software tools, as well as the law 527 of 1999 on electronic commerce for Colombia, Law 1273 of 2009 for the protection of information and Law 1273 of 2009 which criminalizes cybercrime.
