In this paper, an attempt was made to assess the effectiveness of finger jointing in utilising mango wood sections for various end uses like furniture. The study was based on the estimation of Modulus of elasticity and Modulus of rupture under static bending and Maximum Crushing Stress and Modulus of elasticity under compression parallel to grain of finger jointed sections and comparing them with the values measured for clear wood sections from the same lot. For joining the sections, the Poly Vinyl Acetate and Urea Formaldehyde adhesives were used. It was found that the Modulus of elasticity of the sections joined by either adhesive showed significantly better values than that of unjointed clear wood sections. The Modulus of rupture values of sections joined with Urea Formaldehyde were similar to those of unjointed clear wood sections. However, sections jointed with Poly Vinyl Acetate adhesive exhibited lower Modulus of rupture. Under compression, the parameters of the jointed sections joined with either adhesive were either similar or better than those of the unjointed clear wood sections. The study demonstrates the utility of finger jointing of mango wood sections for furniture parts especially with the Urea Formaldehyde adhesive.
Seven patients with paradoxical response to antitubercular drugs are reported. In three cases of intracranial tuberculomas, newer lesions appeared and in two cases preexisting tuberculomas enlarged. In two cases of tubercular meningitis, multiple tuberculomas appeared. All these cases exhibited newer symptoms and CT/MBI revealed the paradoxical response to antitubercular drugs. All responded to continued conservative therapy, with addition of pyrazinamide.
This study reports the effect of two finger profiles on the static bending parameters of Eucalyptus tereticornis samples when joined with urea formaldehyde adhesive. Two sets of finger profiles with tip thicknesses of 0?11 and 0?14 cm were used. Interestingly, the profile with the thinner tip produced weaker joints. This behaviour is attributed to the larger contribution of the tip area to the total joint area in a joint when using the thinner tipped profile. The study suggests that for a given geometry, one needs to reduce the tip area in relation to the total area encountered in a joint. This gives the manufacturer an opportunity to make not too thin and fragile tips but still making it possible to design a profile which can result in useful strength parameters. The results obtained on the effect of tip area on bending parameters were confirmed by using another adhesive.
