We sought to determine neurological outcomes following stroke in patients with left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) or non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant (NOAC) treatment for non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Left atrial appendage closure significantly reduced stroke severity and lowered the risk of disabling stroke at 12 months post-event compared to NOAC after adjusting for multiple demographic and cardiovascular risk factors (odds ratio, 0.23; 95% confidence interval, 0.07-0.71; p=0.01).
