This article seeks to establish the necessary theoretical and political grounds for reparations. It is the aim of the article to examine the various ways in which scholars and politicians have framed the historical debate on reparations and then to introduce a possible approach that would take into consideration something more than slavery. In fact, the article concludes that slavery was just one aspect of the dispossession of the African in the United States. Thus, it will be necessary to consider the entire history of African Americans as constituting a warrant for reparations.
