The iodine coulometer consists of two platinum electrodes immersed in a potassium iodide solution. In order to prevent convection of the triiodide which forms at the anode, the lower half of the coulometer is filled with a more concentrated solution (ca. 1.0 M) than the upper half (ca. 0.1 M).After each electrolysis, the lower half of the solution is drained and titrated with a standard thiosulfate solution.Procedure and Results.-The apparatus is set up as shown in Fig. 1 and the reaction vessel is evacuated to a pressure of 1 µ.
By the use of single crystal and polycrystalline x-ray diffraction techniques, isomorphous orthorhombic lattices (space group No. 59) have been found in the Ru-B and Os-B systems having lattice parameters of a0=4.6443±0.0003 Å, b0=2.8668±0.0008 Å, c0=4.0449±0.0004 Å and a0=4.6832±0.0001 Å, b0=2.8717±0.0002 Å, c0=4.0761±0.0001 Å, respectively. The probable empirical formulas are RuB2 and OsB2, with two formula weights per unit cell.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
