Cereal Chem. 78(3):261-266Rice pellets were prepared by single-screw extrusion cooking with an in-barrel water content of 50 wt%. Three different types of rice, indica glutinous, japonica, and indica, were used as raw materials. Reconstituted rice flour was made to study the effect of amylose content on pellet expansion. The glass transition (T g ) and expansion (T e ) temperatures of extruded pellet were determined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and noncontact infrared thermometer, respectively. The amylose content was not significantly affected by extrusion cooking. The reduction in intrinsic viscosity indicated that amylopectin experienced some degradation. The T g and T e were not functions of amylose content, which affected the expansion ratio of the pellets. The Gordon-Taylor equation was applied to estimate the T g of the rice pellets.Publication no. C-2001-0412-02R.
A simple and effective structure based on traditional coupled-line theory and the configuration of folded open-loop ring resonators (OLRRs) was used to design a balanced-to-unbalanced (balun) diplexer. The two resonant frequencies of the balun diplexer are easily adjusted by changing the physical dimensions of OLRRs and microstrip lines and they had high common-mode suppression. In this study, the designed balun diplexer is investigated for LTE (2.6 GHz) and WLAN (5.2 GHz) band applications. Index Terms-Balun diplexer, common-mode, microstrip line, open-loop ring resonator (OLRR).
A new type of balun-bandpass filter was proposed based on the traditional coupled-line theory and folded open-loop ring resonators (OLRRs) configuration. For that, a new device with both filter-type and balun-type characteristics was investigated and fabricated. Both magnetic and electric coupling structures were implemented to provide high performance balun-bandpass responses. The fabricated balun-bandpass filters had a wide bandwidth more than 200 MHz and a low insertion loss less than 2.51 dB at a center frequency of 2.6 GHz. The differences between the two outputs were below 0.4 dB in magnitude and within 180 ± 7° in phase. Also, the balun-bandpass filter presented an excellent common-mode rejection ratio over 25 dB in the passband. An advanced design methodology had been adopted based on EM simulation for making these designed parameters of OLRRs, microstrip lines, and open stubs. The measured frequency responses agreed well with simulated ones.
