The name "Tancho" is commonly known as a brand of Japanese hair pomade widely used in the Far East and South East Asia. The container of this hair pomade is believed to be made of a special type of glass which is rather inert or non reactive. How long this type of glass has been used in this particular purpose is not certain and has not been mentidned in any medical literature, however, personal discussion with several dermatologists of Bangkok, Thailand leads the author to believe that such practice started after the second world war. There were some patients who sdered from secondary infection and came to see dermatologists but most of them FIGURE 2 f h o w s 2 beads on the right o f the penile shaft .FIGURE 1 4 h o w s the Tanchopomade container and the glass bead. In Thailand the author has had opportunities of seeing X-ray films of the pelvis of two patients revealing one and two round semiradiopaque shadows superimposed on the penile shafts. The question arises as to whether or not the shadows are retained bullets. Physical examhation showed small hard subcutaneous nodules of a few mm. average diameter on the penile shaft. They are able to be moved back and forth with no pain or tenderness, nor is there FIGURE 3--shows a had in the prepuce on the 'From the hprtment of ~adiology, FXUI of ~d -g w ~~C J Y &-Ni-rabbm. w e , Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol %niversity, Bangkok, Thailand.
