Palabras clave: Carbonífero, facies Culm, turbiditas.ABSTRAer This paper deals with the stratigraphy and sedimentology of the Culm facies in a sector of the Iberian Pyrite Belt (South-Portuguese Zone). In the studied area two main turbidite systems occur. The WNW-ESE one is made with turbidites of type I and III (Mutti, 1985), the other one, with a direction NE-SW, includes turbidites of type 11 and 111.The contemporary interrelation between the two main turbidite systems suggests a catastrophic way of deposition for this sediments. This Gibrale6n area is interpreted as the place where this interrelation occur, their facies cycles including intermediate characteristic of the two systems.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
