Based on distributed artiflcial intelligence technology, the paper proposes a distributed expert system for analyzing system stability. The d e v e l o p e d e x p e r t s y s t e m is a m u l t iagent s y s t e m , e a c h p r o c e s s i n g a g e n t of which can compute autonomously and cooperate with other agents to reason an accurate and satisfactory solution for stability analy- sis. In addition, a two-level control mechanism composed of local-control and metacontrol is also proposed t o achieve a high d e g r e e of g o o d n e s s in a n a l y z i n g s y s t e m stability in this i s s u e . , T o demonstrate i t s e f f e c t , the distributed e x p e r t s y s t e m has been tested of practical dais. Test resultsindicate that the distributed expert system will be a valuable part of help desk to assist system analysts in making decision.
