A simultaneous extinction-ratio enhancement and light reuse scheme was proposed for RSOA-based WDMPONs to enhance 10/1.25-Gbps downstream and upstream transmissions. This scheme greatly reduces the power penalty for both downstream and upstream transmissions.

The high performance of optical fiber sensors for water sensing is demonstrated. The proposed sensors possessing low-cost, easily do-it-yourself and highly sensitive features are very suitable for deploying in existing optical fiber networks to detect water immersion.Index Terms-Optical fiber sensor, optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR), water immersion.
