At an Australian university, 191 graduate supervisors responded to a survey about the statistical training and needs of research students. Roughly three-fourths of the supervisors thought of themselves as possessing either an intermediate or advanced level of statistical experience. Their students' level of statistical knowledge was undeveloped, the supervisors thought, because their students' level of statistical knowledge was introductory (76 percent) when it needed to be at least intermediate (75 percent).
