A working party of stoma nurses from the Wessex stoma care nurses forum explored the management of stomal granulomas at the mucocutaneous junction and found that there were no clear guidelines and a diversity of management regimens. Through gathering information, collating the evidence and rationale, and formulating a flowchart outlining the treatment recommendations, the Wessex group has produced guidelines for standardizing treatment. In this article, appropriate assessment of the patient is outlined, as well as three practical treatment plans in seeking to manage problematic granulomas. These recommendations have been accredited by the Royal College of Nursing and a poster will be rolled out nationally.
