This chapter considers the human resource (HR) management function in the context of the cruise industry and reflects on practice as undertaken by P&O Cruises, a leading UK cruise brand. Thereafter, key issues such as dealing with a scarcity of labour, addressing staff retention, managing the multicultural workforce and training and development are addressed. While initially the chapter considers all areas of sea-based cruise business employment, in the latter stages it focuses predominantly on hotel services (including hotel services management), which is the largest employment sector in the business.
